In photography, a shutter is generally used to allow light to pass for a determined period. They are also used to allow pulses of light to pass outwards in movie projector or signal lamp. Shutter speed of 1/32000 sec can be obtained. In digital cameras an image is captured by converting the light from an object into an electronic signal at the photosensitive area (photodiode) of a solid-state CCD or CMOS image sensor.
