In addition to high-quality machinery, Caterpillar provides aftermarket services to maximize equipment value and longevity, further enhancing site performance.• On December 18, 2023, Anglo Asian Mining received its Caterpillar underground mining fleet for the Gilar mine at the Gedabek site in Azerbaijan. This is the first deployment of Caterpillar underground equipment in the region, featuring three R1700 and two 980UMA loaders. Caterpillar is providing vendor financing, a first for Azerbaijan. The state-of-the-art machines, valued at USD 4.6 million, include enhanced safety features and improved operator comfort. Borusan, the regional dealer, supplies spare parts and support.
Recent Development
• On July 21, 2023, Komatsu Ltd. launched new 20-ton electric excavators, the PC200LCE-11 and 210LCE-11, equipped with Proterra lithium-ion batteries, in Japan and Europe starting in October. The company aims to develop a market for electric construction equipment, advancing its goal of carbon neutrality by 2050. The successful Proof of Concept tests and exhibitions at major industry events, these models were introduced as rental machines. Komatsu's DANTOTSU Value plan focuses on creating customer value and promoting sustainable growth through innovative solutions. The introduction of these excavators marks the beginning of their electric construction equipment market initiative.
• On July 11, 2023, Liebherr, in collaboration with Leica Geosystems, offered expanded semi-automatic machine control systems for its Generation 8 crawler excavators. Available for models R 922 through R 945, these systems enhance efficiency, safety, and precision on construction sites. The controls available in 2D, 3D, and 2D "3D-ready" versions, provide real-time data and automation, reducing rework and downtime. The semi-automatic system assists operators by automating equipment movements while they control stick actions, increasing productivity and accuracy. These systems, installed at the factory, are pre-calibrated to avoid delays and enhance operational performance.
• On July 24, 2023, Metso Corporation declared the acquisition of Brouwer Engineering, an Australian firm specializing in automation, control systems, and electrical solutions for bulk material handling. This strategic move will enhance Metso's bulk material handling services by integrating Brouwer’s expertise with Metso’s equipment and service offerings. The acquisition aims to strengthen Metso’s position in Australia and expand global capabilities. The enhanced service packages and fast commissioning benefits highlighted the global scaling opportunities.
• On December 20, 2023, Epiroc launched new digital products for surface mining, including Situational Awareness and Blast Support technologies. The Situational Awareness system allows for zone-based messaging, enabling operators to send targeted information or warnings to personnel in specific areas. The Blast Support tool offers 3D visualization and real-time tracking to enhance safety during blasting operations, ensuring that areas are cleared and personnel are at a safe distance before detonation. Epiroc's new offerings build on over a decade of experience with underground mining technologies, now adapted to improve safety and efficiency in surface mining. The solutions aim to reduce asset search times and improve operational safety.
